Manufactured Log
Homes
Many people are fascinated
with the idea of living in a log home. Maybe it's because our ancestors used to live in them or maybe it's
because we like the rustic look and feel that radiate from log homes. Some people have log homes as a vacation
getaway, while others have decided to make a log home their permanent residence.
There are several types of
logs used to build log homes on the market today. Hand cut or hand crafted logs are unchanged from the
way they grew naturally. Manufactured or machine-milled logs have had imperfections removed and are
milled to uniformity. Machine-milled logs are usually easier for craftsmen to assemble, while hand
cut logs tend to resemble more closely the "rough-hewn" look that most of us associate with log homes. Both
types of logs, however, produce beautiful log homes.
Some people choose to have their log home
custom designed and built by craftsmen who specialize in log homes, while other more adventurous
consumers will purchase log home packages or log cabin kits and construct
the log homes on their owns. There are a number of other choices to be made when embarking
on building a log cabin, i.e where to construct the log home, what type of wood to use
in the construction of the manufactured log home, whether to build the home yourself or hire the
craftsmen to construct it, and the particular log cabin floor plans to use for the log
home.
